“Who’s Afraid of Opera?” Informances 2021
Opera with Class presents: Who’s Afraid of Opera?
Who’s Afraid of Opera? is an instructional and entertaining “Informance” (Information + Performance), that teaches youth about the art form of opera, and how to appreciate the beauty of operatic singing in its many manifestations.
In the recent past, Opera Las Vegas has visited Clark County schools annually with our “Informances” to teach about the art form, and to expose new audiences to the In-person events such as these have had to be postponed owing to the health crisis. So. . .
In collaboration with Vegas PBS, we have created a 32-minute online instructional and entertaining program, Who’s Afraid of Opera?
This presentation is available free of charge and includes the video, a study book to impart extra information about the history of opera, and a Kahoot quiz in two versions, one with eight questions, and one with twenty questions. And, a brief survey to gather important Feedback.
As a prize for students who take the quiz and get all of the answers correct, a link will be provided to their teachers to allow them to see all or part of a 60-minute vocal recital by internationally acclaimed soprano, Cecilia Violetta Lopez.
In order to continue to serve as many schools as possible during this challenging time, Opera Las Vegas plans this to be the first in a series of such “Informances.”
