Eugene Richards made his professional opera debut in the role of The Sergeant in the 2014 Opera Las Vegas production of Rossini’s Barbers of Seville. He sang the role of The Bonze in the 2015 OLV production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. He was recently selected to be a part of Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices within the American Wagner Project division. The son of a well-known San Diego Padres outfielder, Richards attended the University of Hawaii, where he played on their baseball team. He was working as a fashion model in Las Vegas and Los Angeles when he discovered opera when watching a YouTube clip of Bryn Terfel. He auditioned for Opera Las Vegas’ Young Artists program—he sang Verdi— and was accepted
