Born and raised in Palm Springs, CA, tenor Johar Hernandez-Carr attended Pepperdine University studying vocal performance on a full tuition scholarship. He has participated in master classes by operatic tenor and maestro Giuseppe Sabbatini in Italy (2013) and with operatic and gospel baritone Jubilant Sykes in Malibu, CA (2012). In 2013, he studied at the Lingua e Canto Summer Opera Program in Vado, Italy, and at the Heidelberg Opera Workshop in Germany. He has portrayed the roles of Lucano in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, and Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore. He was guest tenor at the William Grant Still concert in Santa Monica, CA. His awards include: Opera Buffs Grant Recipient 2015; National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Southern California, First Place in 2011 and 2013.
