A native of Los Angeles, pianist and collaborator Michael Sherman is the principal pianist and coach for Michigan Opera Theatre’s Studio Artist Program. During MOT’s 2019/2020 season, Michael assisted in productions of Gianni Schicchi and Buoso’s Ghost, in addition to performing regularly with Studio Artists in various concerts, recitals and community events. In addition to his work with MOT, Michael regularly serves on the music staff at Washington National Opera. Michael has also been associated with Fort Worth Opera, where he served as the head of music staff, Opera Philadelphia, Opera Memphis, Virginia Opera, Opera NEO, and The Miami Music Festival. Equally passionate about art song, Michael has performed in recitals around the world- most recently, at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He holds a master’s degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Michigan, a bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Boston University, and is a graduate of the Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera.
