Evan Hammond

Baritone Evan Hammond (F. Scott Fitzgerald) is quickly gaining attention at the national level and has established himself as a versatile performer in both opera and musical theatre. Mr. Hammond recently made his Des Moines Metro Opera debut as The Captain in Candide as well as covering the role of Maximilian, and was scheduled to return to the mainstage in 2020 to sing the role of Un satyre in Rameau’s Platée and Tommy McIntyre in Gregory Spears and Greg Pierce’s Fellow Travelers (all canceled due to COVID-19). In 2020, he was scheduled to make his role and company debut as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with Shreveport Opera (canceled due to COVID-19), where he also performed as the Duke in The Man of La Mancha. This fall, Mr. Hammond looks forward to making his role debut as Figaro in Opéra Louisiane’s digital production of Il barbiere di Siviglia. In the spring of 2020, Mr. Hammond will make his Opera Las Vegas debut in the professional premiere of Evan Mack and Joshua McGuire’s The Ghosts of Gatsby and in the summer of 2021, he will make his European debut as Masetto in Don Giovanni with the Festival Lyrique-en-mer

Other notable performance credits include Le Mari in Les Mamelles de Tirésias, the title role in Eugene Onegin, and John Cree in Elizbeth Cree by Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell, all with Louisiana State University. Additional favorites include The Gamekeeper in The Cunning Little Vixen, Marcello in La bohème, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, and Papageno in The Magic Flute.

An excellent interpreter of new opera, Mr. Hammond performed the role of Tampico in the North American premier of Charles Lucien Lambert’s La Flamenca with Opera Creole of New Orleans in 2017, and that same year he placed second in the National Association of Teachers of Singing National Student Auditions in Boulder, Colorado. He has also been a semifinalist in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition, a finalist in the Mobile Opera Madame Rose Scholarship Competition, and a semifinalist in the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition.

Mr. Hammond has completed young artist training programs with Central City Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and Shreveport Opera. In addition to his training, he holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Alabama where he graduated magna cum laude.
