About Opera Oasis
Opera Las Vegas is pleased to announce its newest free online offering, Opera Oasis, an engaging series of brief, curated journeys exploring the art form. Embodying the definition of “oasis” as “something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast,” OLV intends each feature to offer a bite-sized melodious respite from whatever distractions the day holds. Each edition will focus on a different opera and will pair an instrumental soloist with a vocalist. To enrich the experience, OLV Music Director and Principal Conductor Joshua Horsch will provide context and commentary on each selection.
Opera Oasis – Episode 1
Episode 1 takes a look at Verdi’s Rigoletto, OLV’s Mainstage Opera in 2017. Star baritone Michael Chioldi returns with a searing rendition of the emotion-packed aria, Cortigiani vil razza dannata (Courtiers, you vile, damned race), with Brad Moore tearing up the keyboard. Balancing it out, local Vegas favorite pianist Spencer Baker surveys a virtuosic rendition of Franz Liszt’s Paraphrase of Rigoletto.
